Heart block is a disease or inherited condition caused by an obstruction (or "block") in the electrical pathways of the heart.
Symptoms
Some people with heart block will not experience symptoms. Others will have symptoms that may include the following:
- Fainting (syncope)
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Chest pain
- Palpitations
Treatment
In severe cases where the heart's ability to control and trigger heartbeats may be completely ineffective or unreliable, heart block can usually be treated by inserting an artificial pacemaker. The electrophysiologists Erlanger Cardiology are leaders - and international physician trainers - in the diagnosis and treatment of heart block and other heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias).
