In-Office Bone Density Scanning
In the past, many patients didn’t know they experienced weakening bones until they had already suffered a fracture. Today, a bone density test, or DXA or DEXA scan, can use x-rays to measure the thickness of your bones, letting you and your doctor know if you have experienced bone weakening before you suffer from a break or fracture. It’s quick, taking only 15-20 minutes, painless, and a vast improvement over older methods for detecting osteoporosis. The doctor will typically focus on bones that are either a high risk of a break due to osteoporosis or on specific bones that seem at risk due to your medical history or symptoms you have brought up during examinations.
If you are a woman over 65, have experienced a fracture, have been on or about to begin long-term steroid therapies, have medical conditions that can lead to or are associated with osteoporosis, such as estrogen-deficiency, or have a spinal abnormality, we recommend bone density scanning at periodic intervals, depending on your unique medical history. The results of your bone density scan can help your doctor determine if you have a loss of bone density, and how to best treat your condition or prevent osteoporosis.

What is 3D/4D Ultrasound?
The 3D ultrasound is a still image that has the quality of depth, but imaging takes on the quality of a video with 4D, which creates the quality of motion in real time. Imagine seeing your baby’s first movements inside the womb. It’s an amazing introduction to your family’s new addition.
Ultrasounds have been used for over 35 years with no proven side effects from its proper use. 3D and 4D ultrasound use the same frequency as your doctor uses for normal 2D ultrasound. The Women’s Institute for Specialized Health, PLLC, strictly adheres to the FDA’s standards. You have the comfort of knowing your prenatal ultrasound is being conducted by an accredited, experienced ultrasonographer in a facility with medical oversight.
The 3D/4D ultrasound sessions normally last between 30-45 minutes. We capture the ultrasound in a clean, relaxing, comfortable environment. You are welcome to have family, including children, in the ultrasound room to watch.
Less than 5 minutes after your session ends, we get your 3D/4D pictures and video for you to enjoy viewing and to share with friends and family. You will receive 5 or more black and white thermal pictures and a CD of your ultrasound to take home.
What’s Involved?
The best time to come in for an ultrasound is between 28-32 weeks. During that period, your baby develops more fat and gets a more defined face. After 34 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to get good pictures. Return visits are scheduled at the sonographer’s discretion.
You’ll get the best photos if you drink plenty of water several days before your appointment to ensure your amniotic fluid is adequate. You should avoid any juice or caffeine prior to your appointment.
Setting Up Your 3D/4D Ultrasound
Please call the office to schedule your appointment. We do require that you are under prenatal care before conducting a 3D/4D ultrasound because this exam is no substitute for a full diagnostic ultrasound. We do not accept insurance for 3D/4D ultrasound because this is an elective procedure, but we currently accept major credit/debit cards and cash.
