Diagnosis & Treatment

Resources for Accurate Diagnosis

Symptoms of pancreatic cancer can be absent or vague at first, so any symptoms should be brought to the attention of your doctor. When symptoms or testing question the possibility of pancreatic disease, advanced gastroenterology is often the next step toward diagnosis. Relief of certain symptoms, like itching or jaundice, are commonly managed by the gastroenterology team. Advanced gastroenterology has options for the relief of pancreatic pain. The gastroenterology team also offers pancreatitis treatment and ensures pancreatic cancer is not the cause. From Erlanger Radiology providing state-of-the-art pancreatic imaging to the region’s most contemporary trained advanced GI specialist and our robust interventional radiology team, diagnostic and early interventions lead to a plan for therapeutic options.

Multidisciplinary Treatment

Erlanger Baroness
A team approach is applied to the care of all our patients, incorporating the latest advances in oncology research to optimize patient outcomes and provide compassionate, patient-centered care close to home.
Full Spectrum Surgical Care

Our fellowship-trained surgical team has over two decades of experience, specifically in the field of advanced pancreas, liver, and bile duct surgery, and was instrumental in pancreatic surgery becoming a specialty.  They offer the full spectrum of options for surgical care for the pancreas, from Whipple surgery to other pancreatic surgeries, both open and minimally invasive, as well as ablations, with NanoKnife, for those who may not be candidates for traditional surgery.  Since our surgical team joined the Erlanger team in 2020, they have been the only high-volume center for pancreatic surgery in the region.

Cutting Edge Medical Oncology

Erlanger's Medical Director of Oncology, along with other Erlanger credentialed and ABIM board-certified medical oncologists from the region, provide innovative and cutting-edge cancer care, using the latest trial findings and NCCN guidelines, including advanced testing to determine specific treatments for each patient, like immunotherapy.  They have access to a robust clinical trial network, and participate in many trials, keeping patients close to home.  They are also available for second opinions to set your treatment on the best course.

Advanced Radiation Therapy

Erlanger's radiation oncology department is experienced in providing expert care for patients with pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers. Our team of board-certified radiation oncologists collaborates with providers across the health system at our regular multidisciplinary gastrointestinal tumor board. Using the latest technology, including the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator and CyberKnife radiosurgery platform, our centers routinely employ advanced techniques of radiation therapy.
