James Newby, DO, is a board-certified family medicine physician with Erlanger Primary Care – Ooltewah. As a Chattanooga native, Dr. Newby attended Central High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with two Bachelor of Science degrees: one in general biology, another in political science, and with a minor in chemistry and biology. Dr. Newby attended medical school at the West Virgina School of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete his family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine – Chattanooga. Dr. Newby is board certified in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine. His certification reflects his expertise in providing continuous and comprehensive care, focusing on overall health and wellness.
Dr. Newby thinks of his practice as part of a community where he contributes to providing care and promoting wellness while collaborating with his patients to develop personalized plans to achieve their health goals. He loves practicing medicine because it allows him to combine his passion for helping people with his love for science. He believes the key to fostering a good relationship with patients is being fully present, being genuine, and making his patients feel heard. Dr. Newby chose family medicine for its broad scope, preparing him to address a wide range of illnesses and ailments, and his particular interest in wellness and preventative medicine. He would like to help people stay healthy enough that they do not need to visit him too often.
